Easter, a week and a bit on

Easter was a bit different for me this year, I actually had to work! Despite this it was a good time as Mum and Dad visited from Queensland and we were able to spend quite a bit of time together. Among the highlights fitted in around the shift roster were seeing a performance of the Turramurra Passion in the week before the big weekend, attendance at no less than 4 church services (Good Friday, Resurrection Sunday, and the 2 Wednesday nights either side) and a quick 2 day trip to Canberra to see some old friends and extended family. Perhaps I shouldn’t have made this trip in retrospect due to the cold virus I had, but it was a good time regardless.

No Easter entry on this blog would be complete without an enthusiastic defence of the reason for Easter, in the face of the ridicule it is commonly subjected to by ignorant commentators in many Western countries. It was great to actually see a good history lesson on national TV this Easter, as John Dickson told the story of what history and archaeology has to say without the controversy or fanfare of the publicity-seeking conspiracy theorists. He has a website here for anyone interested in seeing more. The influence of Jesus Christ continues unabated nearly 2000 years after his movement commenced, and this influence he continues to have in peoples lives is perhaps at least as compelling as the historical record. Just look what 3 perfectly sane and intelligent friends did in the week straight after Easter (you might have to ask permision to see this). And after much deliberation another friend did the same on Sunday, just a couple of days ago!

As you ponder what it might mean for you, chill out to the nice jazzy bluesy song playing on this site…

"Kindness" by Todd Agnew

"Open up the skies of mercy
Rain down your cleansing flood
Healing waters rise around us
Hear our cries, Lord Let ’em rise

It’s Your kindness Lord that leads us to repentance
Your favor, Lord, is our desire
It’s Your beauty, Lord, that makes us stand in silence
Your love, Your love… is better than life

We can feel Your mercy falling
You are turning our hearts back again
Hear our praises rise to heaven
Draw us near, Lord, meet us here

Your love is Better than life
Your grace and Your mercy Is better than life
Your kindness, Lord Is better than life"
